Veneers

Should I get Veneers?

Veneers are excellent solutions for patients that have gaps in between their teeth or teeth that are stained, discolored, badly shaped, chipped, or crooked. They are very effective at brightening your smile if other whitening techniques are not recommended for your teeth. They can also help reshape the look of your smile by filling in gaps. The greatest part is that it’s a simple procedure that will not cause discomfort in your day to day, and can even help protect your teeth from further decay.

Today, a veneer placed on top of your teeth can correct nature’s mistake or the results of an injury and help you have a beautiful smile. Veneers are a highly popular solution among dental patients because of their lifelike tooth appearance and durability.

Veneers are thin, custom-made shells crafted of tooth-colored materials (such as porcelain) designed to cover the front side of your teeth. To prepare for veneers, your doctor will create a unique model of your teeth. This model is sent to the dental technician to create your veneers. Before placing your new veneer, your doctor will remove a small amount of your tooth to make room for the veneer. Despite this, veneers are a still a less intrusive option for correcting misalignments and closing gaps than crowns or braces

When placed, you’ll be pleased to see that veneers look like your natural teeth. You can choose the shade to your liking, or, if veneers are only being applied to some teeth they can be made to match your existing teeth. You will have a beautiful smile again and no one will be able to tell you to have veneers unless you tell them.

It is important to note that the choice of getting veneers is typically a permanent one because of the layer of enamel that is removed.

Which food and drink should you avoid with Veneers?

Though veneers are almost stain resistant, your doctor may recommend that you avoid coffee, tea, red wine, and tobacco to maintain the beauty of your veneer. Veneers are typically strong and durable but it’s important to take care of them as they are not as strong as your natural teeth. Avoid foods that require twisting or pulling, and try to use your back teeth to bite harder foods such as carrots. You won’t have to compromise and change your diet, you’ll just have to be a little bit more careful with how you bite into tougher foods.

How long does it take to get Veneers

If veneers are prefabricated the procedure can take only one day, although typically you will have two visits. On the first visit, your dentist will make impressions and may even place temporary veneers. Once a lab has sent the manufactured veneers to your dentist you will have a second appointment where they are permanently placed.

Unlike most other dental procedures, once your dentist is finished applying the veneers you can return to your day without any delay. The procedure does not usually require sedation which means that you can return without any concern for recovery. Oral hygiene will help your veneers last as long as possible, which includes regular flossing and brushing.

How long do Veneers last?
